Instructions
Prepare the Patties: Form the ground chuck into 4 equally sized, flat patties slightly larger than your burger buns—they’ll shrink during cooking. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the cut sides of each sesame seed bun on a dry skillet or grill for 1–2 minutes, or until golden.
Cook the Patties: Heat a grill or cast iron skillet to medium-high (400°F / 200°C). Grease lightly with vegetable oil. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes on each side until a deep brown sear forms and internal temp reaches 160°F (71°C).
Assemble the Burger: Start with the bottom bun. Add 1 tsp mayonnaise, 1 lettuce leaf, 1 slice tomato, 2 pickle slices, 1 onion ring, the patty, 1 tsp ketchup, and then the top bun.
Let it Rest: Allow the assembled burger to rest for 2 minutes to meld flavors.

Notes
For a smoky fast-food style taste, consider adding a few drops of liquid smoke to the meat mixture.
Swap the beef for a plant-based patty to create a delightful vegetarian version.
Add American cheese for a 'Whopper with Cheese' variation.
