  • 1 pound ground beef (preferably 80% lean)
  • 1 pinch salt to taste
  • 1 pinch ground pepper to taste
  • 4 medium hamburger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 large avocado sliced
  • 1 large tomato sliced
  • 4 leaves lettuce
  • 4 slices red onion
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • Start by preheating your grill to medium-high.
  • Divide your ground beef into four. Shape each section into a flat patty. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Transfer the patties to your preheated grill. Sear them for 4-5 minutes per side, depending on how you like your burger cooked. At the last minute, add a slice of cheddar cheese for melty goodness!
  • While the patties are grilling, lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill.
  • Dress up the bottom buns with a layer of mayonnaise. Add a leaf of lettuce, followed by the burger patty. Top with slices of avocado, tomato, and red onion. Spread a mixture of ketchup and Dijon mustard on the top half of the bun, then place it on top of the burger.
  • Serve your California Burger immediately with your favorite side dish.
